　　泰勒是个自幼父母双亡的女孩，长到20多岁的时候，她和好友安吉在纽约都有了工作，但紧张的节奏使她们产生了离开的想法。她们准备到好莱坞发展，可是一辆糟糕的汽车毁了她们驾车横穿美国大陆的计划。不得已，她们只好乘坐巴士。
　　
　　在亚里桑那换司机的时候，她们碰到了第一次上路的新手巴士司机吉米。到达目的地后，吉米和泰勒互换了联络方式。第二天，泰勒和安吉开始在报纸上寻找工作，泰勒找到了一个慈善活动策划人的招聘启示，于是上门应聘。招人的男子是个生活悠然自在的富家公子哥，名叫斯格特，他仰仗家庭的背景，吃穿不愁，通过搞一些社会活动提高自己的知名度。他看中了泰勒的美貌和才干，欣然聘请她做了活动策划人。
　　
　　新的工作使泰勒兴奋不已，她在得到工作的当天在马厂再次碰到了吉米，而这次吉米成了铲马粪的工人。马厂的工头不知道，吉米实际是参加马厂慈善活动的某集团公司的CEO，但却把他误当成了工人。泰勒为吉米的踏实肯干而打动，吉米本想解释自己的身份———他当巴士司机是为了体会一线工人的工作情况，但是却没来得及。事后，二人几次约会，感情升温。
　　
　　泰勒受命为斯格特的慈善晚宴做总策划，安吉从旁帮助。这时，她也得到了吉米暗中为她在自己公司安排的一个设计师的职位。泰勒的设计让斯格特大为满意，考虑到老爸告诉他的45岁前必须结婚方可继承财产的家族规定，他暗中盘算娶泰勒为妻，但泰勒喝醉后他却只把她丢在床下。
　　
　　盛大的慈善晚宴开始了，吉米当然也接到了请帖，但泰勒却把吉米当成是来帮她照顾吧台的侍应生。拍卖的最后一个环节，斯格特出价10万要买下泰勒，而吉米出了100万！泰勒这才知道了吉米的真实身份······
