　　三海矿物公司正在波罗地海深处进行一项为期90天的矿物开采活动，在海底探测过程中，巴兹（Daniel Stern 饰）因失去和母船的联系，忙打误撞发现一艘海底沉船。船员伊丽莎白（Amanda Pays 饰）奉命将巴兹带回，经托马斯博士证实，这是一艘名为“利维坦”的俄罗斯商船。

　　船员们在利维坦号上发现了几卷关于船员失踪事件的录影带，但对疏于酒精的巴兹等人来说，上好的伏特加更具吸引力。第二天起床，巴兹感到后背不适，8小时后离奇死亡。由此船员们才意识到，他们很可能将利维坦号上一种神秘恐怖的生物带了回来……
