　　意大利裔画家莫迪里亚尼（安迪·加西亚 Andy Garcia 饰）在短暂的一生中都在与艺术大师巴勃罗·毕加索抗争。生前唯一一幅击败毕加索的作品，其中描绘了他深爱的女人。落拓不羁的莫迪里亚尼混迹在巴黎蒙马特高地画家圈子里，他过着充斥着酒精、大麻与女人的放荡生活。在一次写生 课上，他遇上了生命中的挚爱珍妮（艾尔莎·泽贝斯坦 Elsa Zylberstein 饰），他邀请她做自己的模特，为珍妮创作了大量肖像作品。但是在一幅准备参加画展与毕加索竞争的作品中，他留下了珍妮的眼睛没有画。他对珍妮解释说：当我了解你的心灵深处时，我将画你的眼睛。他从珍妮身上获得源源不断的灵感，让他持续旺盛的创作激情。但是，他的艺术不能像毕加索那样被大众所认同，不良的生活习惯让他染上难以痊愈的结核病。就在他领取与珍妮的婚姻登记证时，遭遇了强盗，惨死在街头。
